Who is Reconstructive Orthopedics?
Reconstructive Orthopedics is the most comprehensive and sub-specialty trained Orthopedic practice in Southern New Jersey. For nearly 80 years the practice has served patients from around the region to only the best surgical and non-surgical outcomes. If you added the cumulative years of practice of all of our physicians, it would exceed 200 years and tens of thousands of surgeries. We have physicians that are sub-specialty trained. That means they focus specifically on one area of Orthopedics to assure our patients access to true specialists. It also means that our sub-specialists acquired the most amount of training available in the world and stay on the cutting edge of the newest techniques and technologies. Our sub-specialists areas include:
- Total Joint Team:
The Team provides minimally invasive Total Knee and Total Hip Replacements, Partial Knee Replacements, Hip Resurfacing, Revision of Knee and Hip Replacements, Shoulder Replacements, and Reverse Shoulder Replacements.
- Sports Medicine Team:
The Team focuses on Shoulder and Knee injuries of the soft tissue such as Rotator Cuff Repairs, Elbow injuries, ACL Repairs, PCL Repairs, and MCL Repairs.
- Foot and Ankle Team:
- The Team whose sole approach is to repair ailments of the Foot and Ankle which include; Bunions, Hammer Toes, Fractures, Ankle Replacements, Deformities, and Ankle Fusions.
- Spine Team:
The Spine Team focuses on all aspects of the neck, middle back, and lower back. They perform surgeries and non-surgical interventions related to Herniated Disks, Bulging Disks, Back Fractures, Spinal Fusions, Spine Deformities, Radiculopathy, Stenosis, and Facet Pain.
General Orthopedics Team
A Team of physicians that focus on the initial diagnosis and treatment of all musculoskeletal injuries. The Team may utilize surgical and non-surgical treatment options or refer you to a surgical specialist if needed.

Each surgeon has advanced training in the diagnosis and repair of all Orthopedic fractures.
Fellowship Trained, Board Eligible Orthopaedic Surgeon Subspecialty - Total Joint Replacement
Dr. Porat, a native Philadelphian, graduated from Cornell University with Honors prior to attending Temple University Medical School. He was inducted into the AOA Medical Honor Society at Temple and subsequently completed an Orthopaedic Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. While in residency, he was selected to attend the annual AOA-OREF forum for upcoming leaders in the field of orthopedic surgery. He completed a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction (i.e.; Joint Replacement) at The Rothman Institute/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He has written several peer-reviewed journal articles in hip and knee replacement and has co-authored several book chapters.
· Dr. Porat treats hip and knee pathology in adolescents and adults including revision reconstruction, complex joint reconstruction as well as non-operative hip and knee disorders. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive hip and knee surgery.
Raymond R. Ropiak, M.D.
Fellowship Trained, Board-Certified
Subspecialty - Total and Reverse Shoulder Replacement
Dr. Raymond Ropiak grew up in Staten Island, New York, but has spent the last 10 years making the Delaware Valley his home. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Boston College before completing his medical school and Orthopedic Residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He then went on to do a Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson where his mentors included Dr. Gerald Williams, Dr. John Fenlin, Dr. Mark Lazarus, Dr. Barbara Frieman, Dr. Matthew Ramsey, and Dr. Charles Getz . Training in Philadelphia, Dr. Ropiak saw the number of people from New Jersey willing to travel into the city for Orthopedic care and wanted to bring that Shoulder and Elbow expertise to them. Dr. Ropiak specializes in Total Shoulder replacement as well as Reverse Shoulder Replacement. He is also trained in arthroscopic and open shoulder repair and stabilization, including rotator cuff repair, throwing injuries and fractures. In addition to shoulder ailments, Dr. Ropiak treats a variety of operative and non-operative elbow injuries. He is trained in total elbow arthroplasty, elbow arthroscopy, fracture repair, tennis elbow, and ligament reconstruction. Dr. Ropiak joins his physician spouse in Southern New Jersey as she practices as a Medicine and Pediatric Hospitalist at several Virtua Hospitals. They are also proud parents of one child.
Robert M. Greenleaf, MD
Fellowship Trained, Board Eligible Orthopaedic Surgeon
Subspecialty - Spine Surgery
Dr. Greenleaf is the newest member of the Reconstructive Spine Team. Born and raised in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Dr. Greenleaf obtained a degree in Biology at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he was also a First Team All-Ivy League and Honorable Mention National All-American in wrestling. He went on to receive his medical degree with honors from Drexel University College of Medicine and then completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Finally, Dr. Greenleaf completed his Fellowship training in Spine Surgery at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. Training at an internationally renowned facility afforded Dr. Greenleaf exposure to the diagnosis and care of complex spinal conditions, particularly in degenerative conditions, adult deformity and spinal tumors. He also received training in cutting-edge minimally invasive techniques both at Harvard facilities and with the Neurosurgeons of Cape Cod group located in Cape Cod, MA. While in Pittsburgh and Boston, Dr. Greenleaf has performed research, authored textbook chapters, and presented at national meetings on various topics ranging from bacterial MRSA biofilms and Sports Hernia surgery to minimally invasive fixation of spine fractures and embolization of metastatic spine tumors. Dr. Greenleaf and his wife and two children are thrilled to call southern New Jersey their new home.
